Check out KIVA. I love to support artists/entrepreneurs like myself who have a much steeper ladder to climb. Make a micro-loan and watch...you won't be disappointed. You may also be aware of my fondness for album and concert art, so you can imagine my glee when I stumbled upon Aesthetic Apparatus, a graphic studio with a sizable selection of striking concert prints and a very cool website. I think I may have to start with this Dinosaur Jr. (always on heavy rotation in the circle studio...by the way) poster for my office. posted by: chris on 01/31 at 12:34 PM permalink category: blogs & sites of interest Thursday, June 05, 2008blind yourself with SCIENCE![]() If you are an artist, a designer, a craftsman or woman, a parent or...well, a scientist then you must check out the American Science & Surplus site. You'll find an exhaustive collection of all sorts of necessary (and unnecessary) equipment for your shop, studio, home or lab. In fact, many items from the tools and the lab equipment sections have proven to be very useful in the circle studio. They have a great mail-order catalog, as well. posted by: chris on 06/05 at 11:33 AM permalink category: blogs & sites of interest Tuesday, October 16, 2007Trunkt![]() I'm excited to announce circle's inclusion on the very exclusive online magazineTrunkt, whose creators "celebrate independent photographers, painters, illustrators, graphic designers, jewelry designers, textile designers, and handbag designers." I'm honored to be included in a magazine whose mission "is to champion wildly-talented artists and to keep mass-produced merchandise and big-box retailers from overwhelming our world." Visit the Trunkt website to see their vast collection of amazing independent wares and link to the artists' individual sites to place an order. And don't forget to check out the circle portfolio while you're browsing about. posted by: chris on 10/16 at 03:15 AM permalink category: blogs & sites of interest category: circle news Wednesday, July 11, 2007hot off the workbench: R01160![]() Ever since the circle studio's favorite design-seeker Jean from the very cool (and time-devouring) NOTCOT and NOTCOT.ORG posted our heart shaped onyx ring on her brand-spanking new site, NOTCOUTURE, I see that it has been popping-up all over the web. Thanks Jean for continuing to include circle jewelry on your ever-growing media empire. Try Flashfilm, an international fashion, design and lifestyle magazine packed with interesting interviews of emerging artists, designers, musicians, and photographers. The photography is wonderful, especially the city galleries featuring Las Vegas and New York. Even I was fortunate enough to be interviewed awhile back, check it out here. posted by: chris on 05/16 at 03:30 AM permalink category: blogs & sites of interest Friday, May 11, 2007Sub Pop Art![]() Since way back in the early days of bands like Velocity Girl, Nirvana, The Fluid, Sebadoh, Codeine and Zumpano (to name but a few) I've been a fan of Sub Pop Records music and a subconscious fan of their cover, poster, and T-shirt art. Now the amazingly cool graphic work of Sub Pop artists Jeff Kleinsmith, Jesse LeDoux, and others is available @ their Patent Pending Industries. I believe I may need a concert poster or two to adorn circle studio, perhaps this Wilco poster by Jeff Kleinsmith right above my desk. posted by: chris on 05/11 at 05:20 PM permalink category: blogs & sites of interest category: designers & artists Wednesday, May 09, 2007get schooledThe other day I stumbled onto howtodothings.com while I was looking for font uploading directions and, to my surprise, I found a simple answer that actually worked. Every engrossing episode is archived and available online, so you can listen whenever you like. I recommend checking out the Our Favorites page where the staff has chosen their favorite episodes. Every single one is a gem, but House on Loon Lake, Babysitting, and Telephone are great for starters. posted by: chris on 04/17 at 02:51 AM permalink category: blogs & sites of interest category: music/what's spinning Friday, April 13, 2007Friday procrastination assistanceIf you need a little break from your mind-numbing workday(and don't Friday afternoons seem to never end), then check out The New Yorker's humor page.
